  4. We will read for 10 minutes.  After the timer goes off, let's calculate an avg # of pages read for 1 hour.  Using this data, set a goal to get your IRP novel finished by February 7 since your essay is due February 20.

  5. After reading, go to your writing section. Voice: Imagery 10 minutes.

  7. In small groups, use the poster paper to create a visual representation of Elie's change from Chapter 1-4 on 1 of the topics from last night's homework. (Faith, Hope, Family, Physical Appearance, Misc 1, & Misc 2)
  8. On your chart, you will create a visual representation of Elie, use at least 3 examples of text supporting your decision, and write a thesis statement.
    • Your thesis statement will follow this pattern:  Elie's _____ changes between Chapter 1 and Chapter 4 in Night from _____ to _____ because _______. 
  9. If we have time, groups will present their findings to the class.

  5. We will share our PowerLines together and revise any that are not correct.
  6. Using your Question sticky note, what questions do you have?
  7. Using your Character Detail sticky note, what do you notice about the main characters?
  8. After discussing and filling in the Plot diagram, for Chapter 4.
    • While reading Night, you will analyze the text using Sticky Notes.  You must have 5 sticky notes per chapter- make sure you put the Page #s on the sticky notes.  These sticky notes will be:
      • Power Line (which will go into the Google Presentation to share)
      • Question you have
      • Character Detail (significant information and/or change)
      • Symbol w/meaning (cannot be the same as your Power Line)
      • Setting (Time & Place- always important to a text)
  9. Complete Comparison Chart 1-4 (can work with a partner)
  10. You have been given your Fairy Tale paragraphs back.  Correct and resubmit tomorrow.
    • This is a test grade. You will resubmit until it is good.

  6. You will check out your Night novel.  We will listen to part of Chapter 1 together.
  7. With your randomly assigned partner, you will work to complete the Night Web Quest.
    • Each partner will work in a different color. Only 1 partner will submit the assignment. 1 partner needs to make a copy of the assignment and share it with your partner.
  8. While reading Night, you will analyze the text using Sticky Notes.  You must have 5 sticky notes per chapter- make sure you put the Page #s on the sticky notes.  These sticky notes will be:

  10. The paragraph is due before you leave class today.

  4. After reading, go to your writing section. Today, you will work with your table partner to complete a Debate/Persuasive activity. 
  5. 2 minutes to prepare. 2 minutes each person discuss. 2 minutes writing reflection in your Writing section.
  6. Vocabulary time- Go to Vocabulary.com and practice vocabulary for 5 minutes. 
  7. We will begin presentations on Critical Literary Theory. You and your partner will share a brief summary of your theory, briefly summarize your text, and share your document/assignment to the class.  
  8. Each person has access to the file and will look at the work during presentations.  
  9. Access to the file is cut off during class so that no one can edit after the assignment is due.

  4. After writing, go to IXL. Sign in using NCEdCloud or Clever. We will practice on IXL for 10 minutes. 
  5. Organize into your trial novel groups: My Sister's Keeper & The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
  6. You will share your Body Biography with your group members.  
  7. Explain your biography and then pass it around the group. Each person will share to his/her group. 
  8. Turn in your Body Biography & paragraphs.
  9. We will then review the Standards Checklist you picked up the first day in class.  This is a list of most of the standards that are tested on your EOC.  You will pre-assess yourself with a B marking each block.  Then, we will discuss which standards the Body Biography covered.  
  10. Lastly, you will work with your partner finishing your Literary Lens Workbook assignment.(3rd 4th).
  11. If you finish early, work on: Quill, IXL, reading, or Actively Learn due Thursday.

  5. After finishing the packet, you and a partner (mostly everyone) will be assigned a reading and a literary theory.  You will work together to read the notes about the critical lens and complete the assignment on the digital workbook.  You will present together on Wednesday in class.

  2. For homework, you should have watched the Syllabus Intro Video
    • If you have any questions, please email me.
  3. Turn in completed contact/contract form to the metal basket.
  4. Turn in interest survey to the black basket.
  5. Pick up the Close Reading and Annotating handout from the front table.
  6. Log on to your Chromebook. Go to IXL.  Log in using Clever (NCEdCloud). There is also an app available to download and use.
    • We will do IXL on Tuesdays after Sentence Combining. (This is a change from Read Theory. You must complete the diagnostic by January 24.)
  7. In your Notebook, in the Reading Section, create a chart for tracking your reading and setting goals. 
  8. We will begin reading on Monday.  You should have your first IRP novels assigned tomorrow.  You can choose to read your IRP novel or any novel of your choosing.  Due dates for the IRP elements are posted in Google Classroom.

Agenda

  1. As you enter the room, look for the color on the back of your sticker that corresponds with the appropriate station.
  2. You will be moving around, so please place all bags out of the way.
  3. You will need: pen/pencil, notebook or folder for handouts, Chromebook, & your phone for 1 station only. Your phone will not be out any other time except for station #2.
  4. Do not touch or open folders until I tell you to do so.
  5. Before you leave each station, make sure your table is clean and organized for the next rotation.
  6. You will have 14 minutes to complete each station and 1 minute for rotations.
  7. Anything not completed in class is for homework.
